When you flush the toilet and start to see the tide rising, your heart sinks just a little bit. Once you shut down the main water valve beneath or on the side of your toilet, it is time to deal with this clog. If a plunger doesn’t do the trick, these two unclogging tricks are cheap and they should get the job done:
Homemade Drain Cleaner
Materials You Need:
- Half Gallon Water
- Stovetop
- 1 cup Baking Soda
- 2 Cup Vinegar
Steps to Take:
- Boil water on the stove in a large pot.
- Pour 1 cup of baking soda and 2 cups of vinegar into the bowl.
- The mixture will make a ‘fizzing’ noise.
- After 15 minutes, pour the pot of boiling water into the bowl and let it sit overnight.
- You should be good to go the next morning or several hours!
Wire Hanger
Materials You Need:
- Wire Hanger
- Cloth/Rag
- Duct Tape
- Pliers (If Necessary)
Steps to Take:
- Straighten the wire hanger to the best of your ability. Use pliers if necessary.
- Wrap the sharp end of the wire hanger with the cloth and duct tape it to hold in place.
- This is there so that you can’t damage your toilet.
- Stick the cloth side of the hanger into the toilet and maneuver it to try and remove the clog.
- Try to push the obstruction or wiggle it out. Don’t continue to force it deeper if you are not making any progress.
