We’re not blaming anyone’s gender in particular (cough, cough), but when hair gets in the shower drain, it can mean trouble. As hair mixes with soap, shaving cream, and other hygienic products, it creates a glob that makes it difficult for water to pass through your drain. Use a Drain Screen
We would recommend the metal mesh drain screen to all of our clients. It holds in the drain nicely and it traps a large amount of the things you don’t want going down your drain. You’ll have to clean it fairly frequently, but that is a small price to pay for the service it is doing. They can be purchased at any hardware store for an affordable price.
Substitute a Fabric Softener
If you’re more of a DIY person that likes to save money when they can, a fabric softener sheet can get the job done. Place the dryer sheet over the drain and it will let water pass through, but not the other stuff. You’ll have to throw it away after every shower, so weigh out the price of the drain screen and see if it is worth it.
Brush Hair Before Showering
We know it might be a little time-consuming ladies, but brushing your luscious locks before getting in the shower can make a difference. You’ll remove loose hairs before they get washed away and this can cut down on the work a drain screen has to do. You don’t have to get crazy, just run the brush through a few times to clean out any loose hairs!
